Description
The Arden Legacy is a floorstanding speaker from Tannoy, adopting the architecture of the Arden range with a 38 cm Dual Concentric coaxial driver. This type of transducer places the tweeter at the centre of the bass woofer, so that high and low frequencies originate from the same point of emission.
The one-inch aluminium dome tweeter is fitted with a low-mass voice coil, which favours accurate reproduction of high frequencies. The 38 cm woofer, with a polypropylene cone and neodymium magnet motor, covers the lower end of the spectrum down to 38 Hz, for a stated frequency response of 38 Hz to 30 kHz. With a sensitivity of 93 dB/W/m and an impedance of 8 ohms, the speaker accepts a power handling of between 20 and 300 watts.
Through its coaxial design, the Arden Legacy is aimed at listeners seeking a coherent sound image and faithful listening, in a floorstanding format intended for a home hi-fi setup.

What to check before buying used
The Dual Concentric coaxial driver deserves careful listening across the full frequency range to detect any potential mismatch between the central tweeter and the bass woofer. Check the condition of the polypropylene cone on the 38 cm woofer, which is prone to deformation or signs of moisture, as well as the surround around it. Also check the neodymium magnet and the aluminium dome of the tweeter, which may show signs of impact on a unit that has seen heavy use.
