Target Hi Fi FS 100

The FS 100 is a speaker stand from Target Hi Fi's FS range, built from modular elements to be assembled by the user. Its function is simple but decisive: to raise a compact speaker to a given height, decouple it from the floor and provide it with stable support, without the structure adding its own resonances to the sound.

Its distinctive feature is above all its height: 1000 mm, exactly one metre, making it the tallest model in the FS range. This dimension suits situations where the tweeter needs to be raised significantly, for example when the listener listens while standing, from a high stool, or in a room where the listening position is elevated. The top plate measures 150 x 150 mm, a format calibrated for bookshelf speakers with a small footprint. The column can be filled with sand to increase the overall mass and improve bass control. The finish is matt black, discreet in most interiors.

The accessories provided follow this same decoupling logic:

• Matching floor spikes, to pierce through carpet and rest on the slab
• Top plate cones, for firm coupling between the speaker and the plate
• Isolation pads, an alternative to the cones when damping rather than coupling is preferred

This model is aimed at listeners equipped with compact speakers seeking maximum elevation, as well as installations where the room's geometry requires the speakers to be placed well above floor level. The modular design and user assembly suit those willing to build the stand themselves and who want to be able to dismantle it in case of a move or a room rearrangement.

When buying a used example, attention should focus on points specific to this type of stand. Check that all the modular elements are present and that the threaded rods are not bent: a one-metre column does not forgive a warped shaft. Check the presence and condition of the floor spikes, top plate cones and pads, which are often lost over the course of house moves, as well as the integrity of their threads. Examine the top plate for warping or indentation marks around the fixing points. If the stand has already been filled with sand, make sure the fill is dry and that the plugs close properly. Finally, the matt black paint marks easily: chips are cosmetic, but corrosion beneath the finish warrants closer inspection.
