Description
The TEAC AI-303 is a compact-format stereo integrated amplifier, designed to take up little space on a desk or near a television. It houses an amplification module and a Bluetooth receiver, as well as a USB audio input allowing playback of high-resolution audio sources from a computer, smartphone or tablet.
The Bluetooth connection supports LDAC, LHDC, Qualcomm aptX HD, Qualcomm aptX, AAC and SBC codecs, which allows a high sound quality to be maintained from a compatible mobile device, without going through a cable. The USB Type-C input accepts DSD256 and PCM 384/32 streams, a resolution level that far exceeds that of a standard audio file. The amplifier delivers a power of 2 x 25 watts at 8 ohms and 2 x 50 watts at 4 ohms, enough to power a pair of desktop speakers or small bookshelf speakers. The HDMI ARC/eARC interface allows sound from a television to be picked up and output via external speakers, while two RCA (LINE) inputs allow the connection of a classic Hi-Fi source. A 4-pole 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack headphone output, with separate earth circuit, is also provided for headphone listening.

What to check before buying used
The Bluetooth module and receiving circuits (LDAC, aptX) should be tested across several pairings to rule out any dropouts or loss of range. Check the proper functioning of the USB Type-C input in high resolution as well as the stability of the HDMI ARC/eARC connection with a television. The volume and input selector potentiometers should turn without crackling, a sign of oxidation, and the headphone output deserves a check on both channels.
