Description
The AP-507 is a stereo power amplifier from TEAC, part of the Reference 500 series, a range of compact hi-fi components in the A4 format. It can operate in classic stereo, but also in bi-amping or BTL (Bridge Tied Load) mode to deliver greater power into a single load, making it a unit designed to evolve alongside a system.
At the heart of the unit lies the NCOREx amplification module, a new-generation design developed by TEAC and manufactured by Hypex in the Netherlands. This architecture is paired with a dual mono buffer amplifier designed in-house by TEAC. In use, this combination aims for precise spatial reproduction, with a soundstage the manufacturer describes as three-dimensional. The chassis incorporates a 2.8 mm semi-floating aluminium top plate and three-point isolation feet, a layout intended to limit mechanical vibrations that could disturb the sound.

The audio inputs comprise one RCA input and one XLR input, along with a 12-volt trigger input and output, useful for synchronising power-on with other components in the system. What to check before buying used
The Hypex NCOREx module is regarded as reliable, but a unit that has suffered overheating or an output short circuit may show an unbalanced channel or abnormal background noise: a test at moderate volume on both channels is recommended. Check that the 12V trigger In/Out functions correctly, along with the stereo/BTL/bi-amping switching, and inspect the RCA and XLR connectors for any play or loose contact. A visual check of the semi-floating top plate and the three-point isolation feet also helps identify any impact or deformation of the chassis.
