Description
The TEAC PD-507T is a dedicated CD transport, designed to read a disc and deliver a digital signal to an external converter, without an integrated analogue conversion stage. It belongs to TEAC's Reference 500 series and is aimed at those who separate disc playback from signal processing.
The chassis is entirely metal, with an anti-vibration structure intended to limit mechanical disturbances that could affect playback. The stated total harmonic distortion is 0.005% at 1 kHz, an indicator of the cleanliness of the delivered signal. The coaxial output has an impedance of 75 ohms, a standard value for this type of digital connection.
In terms of connectivity, the unit offers an optical digital output, a coaxial digital output and a BNC input, as well as a detachable power cable. The BNC input allows a 10 MHz external clock signal to be received, enabling synchronisation with a compatible DAC to refine playback. The player accepts CD, CD-Rom, CD-R and CD-RW discs.
This CD transport is aimed at a user who already owns, or wishes to pair the unit with, a separate digital-to-analogue converter, in a system where playback and conversion are deliberately kept apart. What to check before buying used
The optical block remains the sensitive point: after several years, the laser diode may struggle to read certain CD-R or CD-RW discs, resulting in playback refusals or skipping. Check that the tray opens and closes without unusual noise or excessive play, a sign of still-sound mechanics. Also check that the BNC input for the 10 MHz external clock functions correctly, as it is often little used and sometimes overlooked by the previous owner.
