Description
The TEAC TN-4D is an analogue direct-drive turntable, driven by a brushless DC motor. This type of drive allows the platter to be driven directly without an intermediate belt, while keeping a compact chassis.
The brushless DC motor ensures steady rotation, with wow and flutter of ±0.1% or less and a signal-to-noise ratio of 67 dB or more (A-weighted, LPF 20 kHz). The die-cast aluminium platter, 30 cm in diameter, contributes to playback stability. What to check before buying used
Check the condition of the SUMIKO Oyster MM cartridge and the wear on its stylus, as replacement may be necessary depending on previous use. Check the flexibility of the earth wire and RCA cables, as well as how securely the removable headshell fits on the S-shaped tonearm. Test the tracking force adjustment across the full 0 to 5.0 g range to rule out any play in the counterweight. Finally, ensure the aluminium platter runs true, with no wobble or play on the direct-drive spindle.
