Description
The TEAC TN3B is a belt-drive turntable, designed for playing 33 rpm and 45 rpm records. The DC motor drives the platter via a belt, an architecture that limits the direct transmission of motor micro-vibrations to the platter and helps ensure steady rotation.
The platter is die-cast aluminium and measures 30 cm in diameter, a mass and material that favour inertia and rotational stability. The tonearm has an effective length of 223 mm and accepts an adjustable tracking force range of 0 to 5.0 g, allowing precise adjustment of groove tracking according to the cartridge fitted. The turntable is supplied with an Audio-Technica AT-VM95E MM cartridge, ensuring direct compatibility with standard phono inputs.
The stated signal-to-noise ratio is 67 dB or more (A-weighted, 20 kHz low-pass filter), an indicator of the cleanliness of the signal delivered before amplification. What to check before buying used
The drive belt may have stretched or hardened over time, causing wow or unstable speed that should be checked on start-up. The antiskating and tonearm tracking force settings are worth checking, as is the condition of the AT-VM95E cartridge's stylus, which may have been worn or replaced by the previous owner. It is also advisable to inspect the platter suspension and the correct operation of the phono/line output switch.
