Thorens TD124 DD

Thorens revives one of the most iconic models in its catalogue with the TD 124 DD, a direct-drive turntable fitted with a suspended sub-platter and supplied without cartridge. The original concept has been reworked using current technical solutions in order to achieve a level of sound reproduction never before reached by the range.

Launched in 1957, the original TD 124 equipped a very large number of broadcast studios throughout the world for decades and also won over the most demanding music enthusiasts thanks to its playback precision; it still retains a community of loyal followers today.

The new TD 124 DD carries on this heritage while combining it with recent technologies designed to preserve the brand's sonic signature. Whilst the clean aesthetic and basic structure echo those of the original model, the height-adjustable aluminium chassis now rests on rubber supports designed to filter out vibrations. The former friction-wheel and belt drive system gives way to a "High Precision" direct-drive motor, which delivers high torque, ensures fine speed regulation and isolates the platter from unwanted vibrations.

The TP 124 tonearm is another new feature: fully adjustable to suit the chosen cartridge, it incorporates an innovative anti-skating device based on a ruby bearing, as well as a patented electric lift/lower mechanism that makes it easier to lower and lift the stylus.

The supplied headshell offers, in addition to the many available adjustments, great freedom in the choice of cartridge. The turntable is supplied with an additional, slightly heavier counterweight, specifically designed for the Thorens SPU TD 124 cartridge (sold separately). This cartridge is an updated version of another great vinyl classic, the Ortofon SPU, which Thorens developed in collaboration with Ortofon for the most demanding vinyl enthusiasts.
