Description
The Tivoli SongBook is a portable Bluetooth speaker with a design inspired by 1970s radios. Its carry handle makes it easy to move from a room to a terrace, and its self-contained battery makes it a nomadic companion for streaming music wirelessly from a smartphone, tablet or computer, whether via streaming services or locally stored files.
It houses two 8.9 cm speakers, one dedicated to bass and the other to midrange and treble, each powered by its own 20-watt amplifier, for a total output of 40 watts RMS. This bi-amplified configuration allows the work to be split between the two drivers rather than relying on a single speaker across the whole frequency range, which favours better sound definition at high volume.
The SongBook isn't limited to wireless use: it includes a preamplifier and a 6.35 mm jack input, allowing a turntable or guitar to be connected directly, without going through an external amplifier. What to check before buying used
The metal handle and its fixings deserve a check: excessive play or a stiff fastening points to intensive nomadic use. Test the USB-C charging across its full range before buying, as a battery life well below the stated 10 hours signals a worn battery, which is difficult to replace on this model. Also check that both 89 mm speakers respond without distortion at high volume, as an imbalance between bass and midrange/treble may indicate that one of the two 20 W amplifiers is faulty. Finally, inspect the protective grille and the 6.35 mm jack input, which are often used and sometimes oxidised or misaligned.
