The Torus Power AVR Elite 30 CE is a mains voltage regulator intended to power a hi-fi or home cinema installation. It is placed upstream of the audio equipment to provide it with a regulated power supply, rather than simply filtering the mains as a conventional power strip would.
Its principle is based on automatic voltage regulation, referred to as AVR for Automatic Voltage Regulator. This system continuously adjusts the delivered voltage in order to keep it stable and optimal, whatever variations may be present on the electrical network. It features 8 outlets for a capacity of 30 amps, allowing several components of a hi-fi chain or home cinema system to be connected simultaneously.
A stable input voltage limits the surges that could affect the operation of connected equipment. According to the manufacturer, this results in improved longevity of the connected equipment as well as enhanced audio performance, as the voltage delivered to amplifiers, players or sources remains constant.

What to check before buying used
With this type of regulator, the internal thermal breaker deserves a real test under load: an untimely trip or, conversely, a complete failure to cut off indicates faulty protection. The outlets themselves must be examined one by one, checking for signs of overheating, looseness or oxidation on the contacts. The toroidal transformer makes the unit heavy: check that the chassis and carrying handles have not suffered. Finally, if the unit has a voltage display or a cooling fan, make sure they operate quietly and smoothly.
