Description
The Torus Power AVR Elite 8 CE is an automatic voltage regulator designed to power and protect an audio or home cinema installation. It is placed between the mains supply and sensitive equipment, with five outlets available for a total capacity of 8 amps.
Its automatic voltage regulation (AVR) function maintains a stable output, between 115 and 125 volts, from an input voltage of between 90 and 130 volts. Outside this range, between 85 and 90 volts on one side and between 130 and 135 volts on the other, regulation remains active but in reduced form. This stabilisation limits the effect of voltage sags, micro-outages and surges on connected equipment, which helps preserve their longevity and the consistency of their audio performance.
A balanced input, available on this model, adds a further stage of electrical noise rejection. With this balanced input, the accepted input range extends from 170 to 270 volts, for a regulated output within the same range of 115 to 125 volts.
This regulator also includes Ethernet connectivity and an RS232 interface, allowing basic remote monitoring, useful for a monitored home installation.
This type of device is aimed at users with a hi-fi system or home cinema setup that is sensitive to mains variations, particularly where the property's electricity supply shows voltage fluctuations. What to check before buying used
Check that automatic regulation works properly across the whole stated range, particularly at the lower (85-90 V) and upper (130-135 V) limits where it becomes reduced. Also test the balanced input if the unit has one, as well as the five output outlets one by one to rule out any faulty contact. Finally, check that Ethernet and RS232 monitoring respond correctly, as these interfaces are sometimes disabled or misconfigured on a previously used unit.
