The Borea BR02 Connect are active bookshelf speakers by Triangle, designed to centralise several audio sources without going through an external amplifier. They incorporate a phono preamplifier, a Bluetooth module and a USB-B port, making them a complete solution for a compact system.
The wireless connection relies on Bluetooth 5.0 aptX HD Low Latency, a codec designed to limit quality loss when streaming from a phone, tablet or computer. The USB-B port allows for a direct wired connection to a computer, with a built-in DAC handling digital-to-analogue conversion internally, up to 24 bit / 48 kHz. This configuration suits both listening to dematerialised music and monitoring or video playback uses.
The built-in phono preamplifier simplifies connecting a turntable, avoiding the need for a separate unit. On the transducer side, each speaker houses a 25 mm EFS silk dome tweeter and a 13 cm midrange-woofer in cellulose pulp, for a stated frequency response of 51 Hz to 22 kHz (+/- 3 dB). Power output is 2 x 50 Watts RMS in Class D.

What to check before buying used
On this active model, prioritise testing the built-in electronic functions: Bluetooth aptX HD connection, USB-B port with DAC, and phono preamplifier, as a malfunction in any of these could indicate a faulty circuit board.
