Description
The Borea BR03 Connect is a pair of active bookshelf speakers from Triangle, designed to form a self-contained stereo system without separate electronics. Amplification, phono preamplifier, Bluetooth and digital inputs are built directly into the speakers, allowing you to connect a turntable, television, computer or smartphone without adding an external amplifier or DAC.
Each speaker houses a 25 mm silk dome tweeter and a 16 cm cellulose pulp mid-woofer, driven by a Class D amplifier delivering 2x60 Watts RMS. Frequency response extends from 47 Hz to 22 kHz (+/- 3 dB), with a signal-to-noise ratio of 90 dB and harmonic distortion below 0.1%, figures that reflect stable reproduction across the entire audible spectrum.
The connectivity covers a wide range of uses: HDMI ARC input with CEC technology to sync the speaker to the television remote, USB-B port to make use of the internal digital-to-analogue converter (up to 384 kHz/32 bit and DSD 256), coaxial, optical and RCA inputs including one dedicated to MM phono, as well as a subwoofer output. Bluetooth 5.0 supports aptX, aptX HD, aptX LL, SBC and AAC codecs for high-definition wireless streaming.

What to check before buying used
On these active speakers, it is worth checking the operation of each built-in Class D amplifier module, left and right channel, as well as checking for any hum or crackling from the potentiometers and input selectors. The USB DAC and digital inputs (HDMI ARC, coaxial, optical) should be checked, as should the phono stage, which can suffer from premature wear. The mid-woofer's suspension and the condition of the tweeter dome also warrant a visual inspection to rule out any sagging or tearing.
