Triangle Borea BR04

The Borea BR04 is a 2-way bookshelf speaker designed by Triangle to deliver rich sound reproduction in a compact format. It can be used both in a stereo Hi-Fi configuration and integrated into a home cinema system, as a main or satellite speaker depending on the room.

The upper end of the spectrum is handled by a 25 mm silk dome tweeter, while the midrange and bass frequencies are handled by a 16 cm driver in cellulose pulp. The speaker features a front-firing bass-reflex port with a tubular design, an arrangement that makes it easier to place close to a wall without affecting the airflow required for bass reproduction. Its bandwidth extends from 44 Hz to 22 kHz at plus or minus 3 dB, with a sensitivity of 90 dB/W and a rated impedance of 4.4 Ω to 8 Ω, for a rated power of 110 W RMS. The dual terminal block allows for bi-wiring and bi-amping, making it possible to separate the power supply to the treble and bass stages.

This model is aimed at Hi-Fi enthusiasts wishing to equip a medium-sized room, between 10 and 40 m², without resorting to imposing floorstanding speakers. Its bookshelf format makes it suitable for placement on furniture or a stand, in a living room or office, for demanding music listening or home cinema use as a front or satellite speaker.

When buying used, it is worth checking the condition of the midbass driver's suspension, which can stiffen or crack over time and affect bass reproduction. A visual check of the tweeter's silk dome is also recommended, as this type of diaphragm can become deformed if knocked or mishandled. It is useful to check that the dual terminal block works properly, particularly the tightness of the terminals, especially if the speaker has been used in a bi-wired configuration. A listening test across the whole frequency range helps to confirm the absence of distortion or unwanted noise related to the bass-reflex port.
