Description
The Magellan Quatuor 40TH Edition is a 135 cm tall 3-way floorstanding speaker, designed by Triangle as the flagship of the Magellan range to mark its 40th anniversary. It aims for a spacious sound reproduction, capable of rendering the image and stage of an orchestra or a string quartet with particular depth.
The horn tweeter receives a new magnesium alloy dome, tasked with rendering recording details with finesse. A distinctive feature of this anniversary model is a second tweeter added to the rear of the speaker: it radiates energy both towards the front and the rear of the emission point, in the manner of a symphony orchestra. This principle limits energy loss off the listening axis and better distributes sound volume within the room, while also making speaker placement easier.
The 16 cm midrange driver combines a paper cone with a small-pleat surround, a Triangle technical signature designed to reproduce the vocal register without colouration. The bass is handled by three 16 cm drivers fitted with a proprietary Sandwich Verre Alvéolaire (SVA) cone, a composite structure made of a double fibreglass sheet with a honeycomb core of cellulose pulp, combined with a cooling system. This technical choice offers a good balance of mass, damping and rigidity, allowing large excursions without deformation and extended performance in the bass and infra-bass registers.
The cabinet is the subject of a specific design: its curved shape results from a stress-formed superposition of 3 mm layers of high-density wood particles, ruling out any internal parallelism. Reinforcements are positioned at strategic points to limit vibration phenomena and micro-deformations of the cabinet caused by driver movement.
