Description
The Thetis 340 is an amplified subwoofer from Triangle, designed to reinforce the bass of a home cinema installation as well as a stereo system. It works alongside main speakers, delivering the lowest frequencies that they cannot reproduce on their own.
Its Bass Reflex loading allows it to cover a bandwidth of 25 to 120 Hz within a contained volume, thanks to a laminar port designed to limit air-flow noise. The onboard Class D amplification delivers a power output of 250 Watts RMS, paired with steep-slope filters that make it easier to integrate with the main speakers without excessive overlap.
The connectivity includes an unfiltered LFE input, a standard RCA input as well as a high-level input, allowing it to be paired with either a home cinema amplifier or a stereo amplifier lacking a dedicated subwoofer output. Two potentiometers, one for filtering (crossover), the other for volume, allow fine adjustment depending on the speakers used.
This subwoofer is aimed at a user wishing to enhance the bass of a home cinema lounge or add weight to a small or medium stereo setup, without having to overhaul the entire installation. The supplied remote control and front-panel LED display simplify day-to-day adjustments, while automatic power-on and standby (AUTO function) avoid the need to manage switching on manually.

What to check before buying used
Test the Class D amplifier with a gradual volume increase: crackling or unwanted protection cut-out often points to worn capacitors. Also check that the two potentiometers for filtering and level work properly, as these can become crackly with age, as well as the bass-reflex port, which should be inspected for any cracks or deformation. Finally, checking the cabinet and the subwoofer's fixings helps identify any misalignment or mechanical play.
