Description
The Velodyne Impact X 10 is an active bass-reflex loaded subwoofer, intended to complement a stereo system or a home cinema installation by reinforcing bass frequencies. Its 20 mm reinforced MDF cabinet, combined with a removable fabric cover, allows it to blend discreetly into a living room whilst providing the rigidity needed for well-controlled bass reproduction.
The 250 mm paper-cone woofer is paired with Class D amplification, known for its good energy efficiency, delivering 250 W RMS with a peak of 500 W. The frequency response extends from 32 to 180 Hz (+/- 3 dB), or from 25 to 250 Hz with a wider tolerance (+/- 10 dB), placing this unit in the classic bass register rather than at the deepest infra-bass frequencies. Phase adjustment from 0 to 180° and an adjustable crossover frequency from 50 to 180 Hz allow the subwoofer to be tuned with the main speakers to achieve a smooth transition between bass and midrange. An anti-clipping circuit also limits amplifier distortion under heavy demand, and automatic on/standby switching removes the need to manage power manually.
This subwoofer is aimed at those wishing to strengthen the bass of a small to medium-sized stereo or home cinema system, rather than targeting very large rooms or the most extreme cinema uses. Its high-level and RCA line inputs, along with an RCA line output, make it easy to connect to either a hi-fi amplifier or a home cinema receiver.

What to check before buying used
On an active subwoofer of this type, the internal electronics deserve a priority check: confirm that the Class D amplification runs without background noise, hum or unexpected cut-outs, particularly at high output levels. The paper cone of the 250 mm woofer should be examined for tears, deformation or signs of moisture, and its suspension should remain flexible without excessive play. It is also worth testing the automatic standby function and the phase and crossover frequency controls, which can be a source of faults on older units.
