Description
The Platinium HD RCA is an interconnect cable designed by Viard Audio Design to connect hi-fi system components via RCA connectors. It is intended for systems seeking a refined analogue signal link between sources, preamplifiers or amplifiers.
Its design is based on a complementary double coaxial architecture with double shielding. The conductors are made of single-strand CU-VHQ "Solid Core" copper, insulated with a colourless, carbon-free polyethylene benefiting from Hi-Bias electrical pre-treatment. Shielding is provided by a double braided silver-plated copper armour, an arrangement designed to limit electromagnetic interference on the signal line.
Electrically, the cable offers a ground conductor capacitance of 100 pF, a DC resistance of 30 Ohm/km and a propagation speed of 200,000 km per second, i.e. 67% of the speed of light. These values reflect a compromise designed for audio signal transmission over domestic cabling distances.
The connectors are made of carbon/chrome fitted with gold-plated contacts, paired with machined AU-4G damping rings. The outer finish takes the form of an extra-flexible white fabric-effect silicone, making the cable easier to handle and route behind an installation.

What to check before buying used
The white fabric-effect silicone finish, stiffer than a conventional PVC sheath, can sometimes show permanent creases if the cable has been tightly coiled during storage: it is best to unwind it into large loops before assessing its flexibility. The carbon/chrome connectors with gold-plated contacts should be inspected for any play in the crimping or early signs of oxidation on the pins. Also check that the AU-4G damping rings have not been cracked or deformed through rough handling of the RCA plugs.
