Description
The Platinium HD is an XLR interconnect cable designed by Viard Audio Design to connect the components of a high-end Hi-Fi system, between a source and a preamplifier or amplifier. It belongs to a range intended for prestige systems, where the quality of the link between components directly determines the final sound rendering.
Its design is based on a complementary dual coaxial architecture with double shielding. The conductors are made of single-strand VHQ pure copper, known as "Solid Core", insulated with colourless, carbon-free polyethylene, with a Hi-Bias electrical pre-treatment. This choice of single-strand conductor aims to limit distortions related to the multiple contact surfaces of a multi-strand cable. The shielding, provided by a double braided silver-plated copper armour, protects the signal from electromagnetic interference along the entire length of the cable.
Electrically, the cable has a conductor-to-ground capacitance of 100 pF, a DC resistance of 30 Ohm per kilometre and a propagation speed of 200,000 km per second, or 67% of the speed of light. These values reflect a sought-after compromise between low resistance and signal transmission speed.

What to check before buying used
The carbon/chrome connectors deserve close inspection: these gold-plated pins can scratch or oxidise with repeated unplugging, which degrades contact quality. Check the flexibility of the fabric-effect silicone sheath and the absence of marked kinks or crushing along the entire length, which could indicate storage coiled too tightly. Also check the condition of the AU-4G damping rings at the plug entry points, a common area of mechanical weakness on cables that have been used extensively.
