What to check before buying used
With this type of AES-EBU digital cable, the sensitive point remains the copper/silver shielding and the cross coupled twist: a visual check of the silicone sheath allows for detecting any nick or pinching that may have affected shielding continuity. It is also worth checking the tightness and absence of play at the XLR connectors, whose gold-plated contacts may tarnish or slightly oxidise depending on storage conditions. A continuity test and a check for the absence of micro-dropouts is recommended before integration into a demanding system, as the cotton anti-elongation core does not protect against excessive twisting during handling.
