What to check before buying used
With this type of digital link, attention should first focus on the XLR connectors: the gold plating must remain intact, with no trace of oxidation or play in the locking mechanism, otherwise micro-dropouts or digital synchronisation errors may occur. The white silicone sheath, visually more fragile than a textile sheath, marks easily at pronounced folds and bends, which can eventually weaken the underlying copper/silver shielding. The overall flexibility of the cable should also be checked along its full length: a stiffened or cracked area often reveals a compressed cotton anti-elongation core or an internally damaged conductor, invisible from the outside.
