Description
The Vincent SV-200 is a hybrid integrated amplifier, built in midi format. It combines a valve preamplification stage with a transistor output stage, an architecture characteristic of the brand that allows a compact format to be retained without giving up certain technological choices found on larger models such as the SV-700.
The preamplification stage relies on two 6N1 tubes working on the SRPP (Shunt Regulated Push-Pull) principle, a topology aimed at improving dynamics while reducing the signal-to-noise ratio. These tubes work in combination with Toshiba Fet transistors. Output amplification is provided by four Toshiba transistors operating in class AB. The power supply relies on a toroidal transformer and two 13600 μF capacitors, intended to guarantee power reserves for dynamic passages.
On the connectivity side, the SV-200 offers two analogue inputs as well as two digital inputs, one optical and one coaxial, connected to a built-in Burr-Brown digital-to-analogue converter accepting a sampling frequency of up to 24-bit/192 kHz. A preamplifier output and a REC output complete the unit, allowing a subwoofer or a recording device to be connected respectively. An aluminium remote control is included.
This type of hybrid amplifier is aimed at a user wishing to enjoy the sonic colouration associated with tubes while benefiting from modern digital connectivity, particularly for connecting a digital source via optical or coaxial input without an external DAC. The midi format suits an installation where space must remain limited, without reducing the available functions.

What to check before buying used
The 6N1 preamplification tubes wear over time: duller sound, increased hiss or a microphonic effect should raise concern, and their matching is worth checking. The 13600 μF power supply capacitors may lose capacitance with age, resulting in a loss of dynamics during powerful passages. The volume potentiometer should also be tested, as its tracks may crackle or produce channel imbalance after several years of use.
