Description
The Vincent SV-237 MKII is a hybrid integrated amplifier, successor to the SV-237 and an evolution of the SV-236 MkII whose design it retains. It combines valve preamplification with a transistor power section operating in Class A, an architecture designed to combine the warmth of the valve with the precision of the transistor.
The unit uses a series of double triodes in the preamplification stage, which contributes to a typically "valve" timbre while remaining neutral. Compared with its predecessor, the circuit has been reworked to improve musicality and signal-to-noise ratio, with a highly linear gain. This characteristic allows the amplifier to be paired with a wider range of speakers, including high-efficiency models or those with complex impedances.
For digital sources, the SV-237 MKII features a Burr Brown PCM 5102 converter operating at 24-bit/192 kHz, accessible via a coaxial input and an optical input. It is therefore possible to connect a PC or a music server to enjoy warm sound reproduction from dematerialised files. Bluetooth reception is also built in, for wireless connection of compatible sources.

What to check before buying used
On this hybrid model, check the condition of the double triode preamplification valves: humming, loss of a channel or muffled sound indicate worn valves that need replacing. Also check the operation of the volume potentiometer (crackling when adjusted) and the condition of the capacitors in the Class A power stage, whose ageing can affect sound quality. Testing the coaxial and optical digital inputs as well as the built-in Bluetooth ensures the Burr Brown converter is working correctly.
