Description
The VSSL A.1 is a network amplifier dedicated to audio streaming, designed to connect a listening zone to a home audio system. It allows music to be sent directly from music applications installed on a smartphone, tablet or computer, without going through an intermediate streaming device.
Its principle is based on native streaming: the connection is established directly between the music application and the speakers, allowing the same applications to be used as in the car, at work or on the move. Playback is controlled from within the application itself, with no additional dedicated software to learn.
This A.1 model handles a single listening zone, making it an entry-level base for a multiroom system. It is designed to be paired with other models from the VSSL A series, such as the A.6 and A.3, in order to gradually extend playback to several rooms. It then becomes possible to play several zones in unison, or conversely to let each room stream its own playlist.
The VSSL A.1 is aimed at those wishing to fit a single room or a specific zone of their home with audio streaming, with the possibility of expanding the installation later on. It is suited both to a first multiroom installation and to a complement to an existing VSSL system.
What to check before buying used
The Wi-Fi module and compatibility with current streaming applications deserve checking, as an older unit may lose support for certain protocols over the course of the manufacturer's updates. The speaker output terminals and the power connector should be examined for oxidation or mechanical play. The volume potentiometer and the amplifier stage's capacitors remain the usual wear points, to be tested by listening for the absence of crackling when adjusting.
