Description
The Platinum Starlight 7 is a coaxial digital cable from Wireworld, designed to connect a digital source (player, transport, network player) to a converter or DAC via an S/PDIF connection. This is a high-end model from the brand, designed to transmit the digital signal with minimal alteration before conversion to analogue.
Its conductor is made of solid OCC-7N silver, a very high purity material known for its low resistance and good conductivity, which limits signal losses on the connection. The internal geometry, patented under the name DNA Helix (here in a Tri-DNA Helix variant), aims to reduce losses and distortions related to signal propagation within the cable. The Composilex 3 insulation completes this design by limiting the parasitic effects that the dielectric surrounding the conductor can introduce.
The cable features a controlled impedance of 75 Ω, the reference value for S/PDIF connections, and terminates in RCA connectors. This one-metre length corresponds to typical use between two units placed within the same rack or on the same shelf.
This model is aimed at demanding digital hi-fi systems, where the quality of the connection between source and converter directly affects the final sound: timbre, precision and soundstage. What to check before buying used
Check for kinks or crushing along the cable, which can alter the internal Tri-DNA Helix geometry and degrade digital signal transmission. Inspect the RCA connectors: play, oxidation or imperfect contact on the centre pin are enough to cause playback errors or micro-dropouts. Test the connection with the relevant source and DAC to rule out any continuity issue with the solid silver conductor, which is invisible to the naked eye.
