Description
The Silver Electra 10 is a mains power cable from Wireworld, positioned just below the reference models in the brand's catalogue. It does not carry an audio signal: its role is to bring current from the mains supply to an amplifier, a digital source, a preamplifier or a video component, within a high-end audiovisual system.
Its distinguishing feature lies in the nature of its conductors. Wireworld uses continuous-cast silver produced using the Ohno process (Ohno Continuous Cast, or OCC), along with a silver-plated copper alloy. OCC continuous casting aims to produce a metal with a very elongated crystalline structure, with a minimum of grain boundaries along the length of the conductor, whereas ordinary copper contains a great many. Silver plating, meanwhile, makes use of this metal's high conductivity at the conductor's surface.
This type of cable is intended for a listener or installer who has already addressed the essentials of their system, speakers, electronics, sources, interconnect cabling, and who approaches mains power as the final stage of optimisation. It has a place both in a demanding music system and in a home cinema installation where several sensitive appliances share the same electrical circuit.

What to check before buying used
The crimping of the mains plugs and the continuity of the shielding deserve careful checking on this type of cable: a connector that has undergone repeated insertions can lose its grip and cause micro-interruptions. The ageing of the sheath and the flexibility of the cable at bend points, near the plugs, should also be checked, as a hardened or cracked sheath weakens the whole cable. On an OCC continuous-cast silver-plated conductor, no visible oxidation should be present at the contact points.
