Yamaha M-5000

The Yamaha M-5000 is a stereo power amplifier intended for high-fidelity audio reproduction. It fits into a Hi-Fi system downstream of a preamplifier, with the role of feeding the speakers with an amplified signal under the best conditions of neutrality and control.

Its design is based on a symmetrical architecture that physically and electronically isolates the right and left channels. The signal path is deliberately shortened to limit energy losses and achieve a low impedance level, two factors that contribute to the sound precision sought in this type of unit.

A notable feature of this model: unlike traditional power amplifiers that connect the negative polarity to earth via a transistor, the M-5000 directly connects the positive and negative poles of the output stage. The entire power circuit is thus placed in a floating configuration relative to earth, which eliminates unwanted effects linked to voltage variations and reduces background noise originating from the earth.

This floating configuration also creates an environment suited to the use of MOSFET power transistors, whose performance is improved when driving speakers with low impedance. The unit's toroidal transformer is furthermore mounted on a 3 mm thick pure brass base, intended to limit parasitic vibrations that could affect sound performance.

This type of amplifier is aimed at a demanding listener, already equipped with a Hi-Fi system built around a separate preamplifier and speakers capable of making the most of a dedicated power stage, including low-impedance models.
