Yamaha NS-3000

The NS-3000 is a high-fidelity bookshelf speaker from Yamaha, designed to reproduce music with particular fidelity and nuance. It follows in the line of the brand's reference speakers, incorporating certain technical elements derived from the NS-5000.

It features a tweeter borrowed from the NS-5000 and a new 16 cm woofer fitted with drivers made from Zylon material, a fibre whose speed of sound propagation is comparable to that of beryllium while retaining the flexibility characteristic of textile materials. The speaker also incorporates an R.S. (Resonance Suppression) chamber designed to limit spurious cabinet resonances, along with an acoustic absorber specifically optimised for this model. The crossover circuit uses high-end components, including an MCap SUPREME EVO audio capacitor made by Mundorf in Germany.

This model is aimed at Hi-Fi enthusiasts seeking a bookshelf speaker capable of reproducing the finest nuances of a recording, in a system where reproduction quality takes precedence over footprint. It is particularly suited to attentive listening, in a dedicated room or well-appointed lounge, paired with electronics of a comparable standard.

When buying used, it is worth checking the condition of the woofer's suspension, which can stiffen or crack over time, as well as the integrity of the Zylon tweeter, which is sensitive to impacts. Checking the condition of the internal crossover circuit, particularly the solder joints and capacitors, helps ensure that the original acoustic qualities have been preserved. It is also worth checking the presence and condition of the protective grilles and the cabinet veneer.
