Description
The R-N1000A is a network integrated amplifier from Yamaha, designed for high-resolution music playback within a stereo Hi-Fi system. It combines amplification and a network module within a single chassis, with an HDMI connection and streaming compatibility, to simplify everyday listening without sacrificing sound quality.
The unit is built around Yamaha's ToP-ART concept, which organises the left/right circuit in a rigorously symmetrical layout and shortens the signal path as much as possible, in order to preserve sound fidelity. The particularly rigid Art Base chassis absorbs unwanted vibrations that could otherwise affect reproduction. Digital-to-analogue conversion is handled by an ESS Technology SABRE ES9080Q DAC, capable of processing streams up to 384 kHz / 32-bit, for a high signal-to-noise ratio, 110 dB in Pure Direct mode. YPAO acoustic correction automatically adapts the sound output to the characteristics of the listening room. On the power side, the amplifier delivers 140 W into 8 ohms, up to 290 W into 2 ohms, with two speaker outputs (4 terminals) and a dedicated subwoofer output.

What to check before buying used
On a network amplifier of this generation, the streaming module and network connection deserve a thorough test: firmware update, recognition on the home network and correct operation of the various streaming sources. It is also worth checking that the potentiometers and selectors work properly, and that there is no crackling at the speaker output, which would indicate wear on internal components. The YPAO calibration function, if a microphone is supplied, should be tested to confirm it works correctly.
