Description
The R-N600A is a network receiver from Yamaha, designed to centralise several audio sources: online streaming, high-resolution files, DAB/DAB+ tuner and turntable. It integrates MusicCast connectivity, allowing playback to be controlled from the main online music services, as well as Bluetooth, AirPlay 2 and DLNA to stream from a smartphone, tablet or computer.
Its design is based on the ToP-ART (Total Purity Audio Reproduction Technology) structure, intended to limit vibrations and preserve signal purity, complemented by damping feet. The ESS SABRE ES9010K2M Ultra DAC converter supports network and USB playback up to 384 kHz in PCM and 11.2 MHz in native DSD, allowing high-resolution audio files to be used without degradation. The amplifier delivers 2 x 80 W RMS into 8 ohms, with a frequency response of 10 Hz to 100 kHz and a signal-to-noise ratio of 100 dB, figures that reflect an extended and low-noise reproduction. The dedicated MM phono input allows a turntable to be connected directly without an external preamplifier, while a subwoofer output allows for the addition of a subwoofer.
The connectivity includes three RCA line inputs, two optical inputs, two coaxial inputs, a front-panel USB-A port, an Ethernet port, a DAB/DAB+ antenna socket, two RCA outputs and a front-panel headphone output, with screw-type speaker terminals. What to check before buying used
On an amplifier/tuner of this type, it is worth checking that the MM phono input functions correctly, as it is often less used and therefore more prone to contact oxidation. The volume and balance potentiometers should also be tested by ear to detect any crackling. On the network connectivity side, it is useful to check that the MusicCast module and the Ethernet port respond correctly, as these functions also depend on software updates that may be outdated on a used unit.
