The R-N800A is a network amplifier/tuner from Yamaha, designed to centralise stereo listening at home: it combines a power amplifier stage, FM/DAB tuner and network connectivity within a single unit, in a classic Hi-Fi look suited to the living room.
Its rated power of 2x100 W into 8 ohms (20 Hz-20 kHz, 0.07% THD) allows it to drive high-impedance speakers without strain, while dynamic power rises to 290 W into 2 ohms, a sign of good current delivery capability into more demanding loads. What to check before buying used
With this type of network amplifier/tuner, each source should be tested at switch-on: phono input, optical and coaxial inputs, USB port and Wifi/Bluetooth connection, to rule out any recognition issues or intermittent dropouts. The volume potentiometer and input selectors are worth checking by ear, listening for crackling caused by worn contacts. It is also worth confirming that the YPAO function starts correctly and that the FM/DAB tuner receives signal without excessive background noise.
