Description
The Yamaha RX-A4A is an audio-video receiver designed for Home Cinema systems, capable of handling up to 7.2 channels to deliver multichannel sound with surround channels and subwoofer. It incorporates Dolby Atmos and DTS:X decoding technologies, allowing spatially positioned sound effects to be reproduced, including height effects via the Height Virtualizer function.
In terms of power, the unit delivers 110 W per channel into 8 ohms in two-channel operation, and up to 165 W on one channel according to the JEITA measurement standard at the same impedance. On the video side, it provides HDMI pass-through compatible with 8K at 60 Hz and 4K at 120 Hz, allowing recent sources, including next-generation games consoles, to pass through without signal degradation.
The unit also features the MusicCast multiroom system, which allows music to be streamed to other compatible devices within the same ecosystem and lets the receiver be controlled from a smartphone. It also offers compatibility with wireless surround speakers, as well as an automatic calibration function that analyses the room's acoustics and the speakers' characteristics to adjust the sound settings.

What to check before buying used
Check that all seven amplification channels are working properly, as a used receiver may develop a weak or even silent channel after years of intensive Home Cinema use. Also check the condition of the terminals and HDMI sockets, which are prone to poor contact, as well as the rear ventilation, which is often clogged with dust. Finally, test the automatic calibration and the MusicCast module, whose proper operation depends on a network card and a measurement microphone being in perfect working order.
