The RX-V4A is a 5.2-channel audio video receiver from Yamaha, designed to serve as the heart of a home cinema installation. It handles both speaker amplification and the processing of audio and video streams passing through its HDMI inputs, with the aim of delivering sound and picture consistently within a single system.
Rated power reaches 115 W on one channel and 80 W on two channels at 6 ohms, enough to drive speakers in typical home cinema configurations. Digital-to-analogue conversion relies on a Burr-Brown PCM5102A DAC operating up to 384 kHz / 32-bit, a component recognised for its precision with high-resolution recordings. On the video side, HDMI pass-through accepts 8K/60 Hz and 4K/120 Hz signals with upscaling up to 4K, while HDR10+ compatibility aims to preserve the contrast rendering intended by content creators. The ALLM, VRR, QMS and QFT functions are aimed at gamers on recent consoles, reducing latency and display stutter. The audio delay, adjustable from 0 to 500 ms, also allows sound-to-picture synchronisation to be adjusted according to the installation.

What to check before buying used
On an AV receiver of this type, it is best to test each HDMI input individually, particularly with a 4K/120 Hz or 8K source, to check that pass-through works without dropouts or loss of sync. It is also worth checking that the WiFi and Bluetooth module works properly, along with the stability of the MusicCast connection, points that can sometimes be sensitive on network devices that have seen heavy use. Testing the FM/AM and DAB tuners, as well as the front-panel headphone output, helps ensure that no function has been affected by use.
