Description
The RX-V6A is a 7.2-channel audio-video amplifier from Yamaha, designed to drive a complete home cinema installation combining picture and sound. It combines surround format decoding, speaker amplification and video source management within a single chassis, making it the central hub of a home cinema system.
Its rated power reaches 150 W on one channel at 4 ohms (1 kHz) and 100 W on two channels at 8 ohms across the full 20 Hz-20 kHz band, enough to drive medium to high-power speakers without straining the amplifier. The Burr-Brown PCM5102A converter, capable of handling streams up to 384 kHz/32-bit, ensures careful digital-to-analogue conversion. On the video side, the unit handles HDMI pass-through at 8K/60 Hz and 4K/120 Hz as well as HDR10+, with upscaling up to 4K, while the ALLM, VRR, QMS and QFT functions specifically target gaming use on recent consoles. Decoding covers Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, DTS:X and DTS-HD Master Audio, complemented by an adjustable audio delay from 0 to 500 ms to synchronise picture and sound.
With seven HDMI inputs, one MM phono input, several digital and analogue inputs, as well as pre-amplified outputs for subwoofer and zone 2, this model is aimed at those wishing to centralise several audio and video sources, Blu-ray player, console, turntable, streaming, around a single, expandable home cinema installation. Wi-Fi connectivity, two-way Bluetooth, AirPlay 2 and MusicCast multiroom also make it suitable for use extended across several rooms of the house.

What to check before buying used
On an AV amplifier-tuner of this generation, it is worth testing each HDMI input individually, including 8K/60 Hz and 4K/120 Hz pass-through, as these circuits can degrade with intensive use of multiple sources. Also check that Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and the MusicCast module work properly, as well as the responsiveness of the remote control and front panel buttons. Checking the RCA analogue inputs and the MM phono input helps ensure there is no crackling caused by oxidised connectors.
