The Yamaha SR-X40A is a compact soundbar designed to improve a television's sound without adding multiple separate speakers. It integrates its own subwoofer and connects directly to the living room's audiovisual setup.
It is built around 5 speakers arranged as 2 wide-range speakers, 2 height speakers and 1 built-in subwoofer, for a total power of 180 W. This layout delivers both a frontal sound base and a height effect, made use of through Dolby Atmos compatibility and Yamaha's own True X Surround technology, which processes the signal to widen the soundstage without resorting to physical surround speakers. Clear Voice mode further enhances dialogue intelligibility, and four DSP modes (stereo, standard, movie, game) allow the sound to be adapted to the type of content. On the connectivity side, it offers an HDMI input, an HDMI eARC output, an optical input, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi with AirPlay 2, allowing it to be connected to both a television and a streaming audio source.
