Description
The Yamaha XDA-QS5400RK is a network amplifier designed for multiroom audio integration. It comes in an ultra-slim 1U rack-mountable enclosure, designed to be installed in a cabinet or equipment rack rather than displayed in a living space. It operates with the MusicCast system and can be paired with home cinema amplifiers, soundbars or other compatible hi-fi equipment.
The unit delivers 8 channels of Class D amplification, organised into 4 zones of 2 channels each, freely assignable and bridgeable to form higher-power outputs at an impedance of 4 ohms. In normal configuration, rated power reaches 90 W at 4 ohms or 50 W at 8 ohms per channel; in Bridge mode, it rises to 100 W at 8 ohms. Harmonic distortion remains contained at 0.04% at speaker output and 0.005% at Pre-Out output, for a signal-to-noise ratio of up to 114 dB depending on the source used. Network playback supports FLAC, WAV and AIFF files up to 192 kHz / 24-bit, as well as MP3, WMA, MPEG-4 AAC and ALAC up to 96 kHz / 24-bit, with direct access to Deezer, Tidal, Spotify Connect, Qobuz and Amazon Music HD. Each unit natively manages 4 streaming zones, an arrangement expandable up to 32 zones divided into simultaneous playback groups of 20 zones each.
This model is aimed at multiroom audio installations built to last: integrators, installers or individuals equipping several zones of a home with coordinated audio distribution from a central point, without multiplying separate amplifiers in each room.
On the connectivity side, the unit offers 4 speaker outputs in Euroblock format, 4 pre-amplified outputs, 2 stereo RCA inputs (CUT IN, AUX), 4 USB inputs, as well as Trigger and Remote inputs/outputs for integration with other equipment in the system. The Volume Adaptive EQ function adjusts equalisation according to sound level, and volume can be adjusted in 0.5 dB steps from -80 dB to 0 dB.

What to check before buying used
On this type of multizone amplifier intended for a fixed rack installation, it is advisable to check the correct operation of each of the 4 zones and 8 amplification channels, as a fault may affect only a single output. The Euroblock connectors on the speaker outputs deserve a check of their tightness and condition, as do the USB and RCA inputs after repeated plugging cycles. It is also worth testing the Ethernet network connection and pairing with the MusicCast app, as well as the behaviour of the Trigger and Remote inputs/outputs if the unit has been integrated into a third-party control system.
