Description
The SA700 is an audiophile digital audio player (DAP) from Astell&Kern, designed for listening to high-resolution music on the move. It follows in the footsteps of the brand's very first product, launched in 2012, taking up the design cues of the AK120 and revisiting them in a more streamlined form.
The SA700 is the first Astell&Kern player to feature a dual AK4492ECB DAC. This chip, derived from work carried out on the AK4497EQ, offers reduced power consumption while aiming for a sound performance level close to that of this higher-end model, a compromise designed specifically for portable use.
The SA700's volume wheel features a light ring that is not purely decorative: its colour changes according to the resolution (bit depth) of the track being played, and its brightness varies across 150 levels of red to reflect the selected volume level, providing immediate visual feedback on playback status.
This player is aimed at discerning music lovers wishing to carry an audio source of higher quality than that of a smartphone, particularly those who appreciate the sound heritage and expertise developed by Astell&Kern since the brand's earliest days.
