Description
The Naim Uniti Atom Headphone Edition is an all-in-one headphone amplifier that combines a digital-to-analogue converter with a network streaming platform. It allows a high-end headphone to be driven directly from digital or streaming sources, without going through a preamplifier or a separate external source.
The unit offers three separate headphone outputs: 6.35 mm jack, balanced 4.4 mm pentaconn jack, and 4-pin XLR. This range of connections allows the unit to be adapted to different types of headphones, including those wired in balanced configuration, which can offer a better signal-to-noise ratio on this type of device. What to check before buying used
When buying used, it is worth checking that all three headphone outputs work properly, particularly the 4.4 mm balanced output and the XLR output, which are used less often and therefore harder to test quickly. The analogue volume potentiometer also deserves particular attention: crackling or instability in sound level near the end of its travel may indicate wear. It is also recommended to test the network connectivity (Wi-Fi, AirPlay 2, Bluetooth) and the digital inputs, particularly HDMI ARC, to ensure that no communication module has been damaged by intensive use or a software fault.
