Description
The NPX 300 is a separate power supply from Naim Audio, designed for equipment in the 200 Series range. Positioned outside the chassis of the preamplifier or streamer, it takes on the power supply function so that the main unit can be dedicated exclusively to signal processing.
The NPX 300 incorporates a toroidal transformer paired with six voltage regulators derived from Naim's DR (Discrete Regulator) technology. This architecture aims to provide a cleaner power supply to the connected system, with a reduction in electrical noise noticeable from the moment it is put into service. The casing is made from thick aluminium plates, a design choice intended to limit the influence of magnetic fields, thermal variations and vibrations on the internal electronic components.
The NPX 300 is compatible with products in the 200 Series, as well as with the NDX2 or the NAC-N 272, with the use of specific cables. Several units can be combined within the same configuration, allowing a Naim installation to evolve over time without changing the main unit.
This model is aimed at users of a Naim 200 Series system, preamplifier or streamer, wishing to improve its power supply for a more refined listening experience, while retaining the possibility of upgrading to other compatible products from the brand.

What to check before buying used
The toroidal transformer and DR regulators are the elements to test first before any purchase, checking for the absence of humming or abnormal noise on start-up. Also check the condition of the type 3 and type 4 power outputs as well as the micro USB port used for updates, ports that are rarely used but whose contacts can oxidise over time. The considerable weight of the aluminium chassis means it is worth checking that the feet and front panel have not suffered any impact during previous handling.
