Description
The Uniti Star is an all-in-one integrated amplifier from Naim Audio, designed to bring together amplification, CD playback, network streaming and digital connectivity in a single unit. It is aimed at those who wish to simplify their installation without giving up the variety of music sources, from physical discs to network streams.
The unit delivers 2x70 W into 8 ohms, in class AB, sufficient to drive most common speaker setups. It integrates a 24-bit/192 kHz DAC from Texas Instruments, compatible with numerous audio formats including WAV, FLAC, DSD, ALAC, AIFF, AAC, WMA, OGG and MP3, allowing it to handle both compressed files and high-resolution masters.
The built-in CD player also acts as a ripper to USB, a function that allows a disc collection to be digitised directly from the unit, without going through a computer. In terms of connectivity, the Uniti Star offers WiFi, Bluetooth apt-X, AirPlay, DLNA, Google Cast Audio and Spotify Connect, as well as compatibility with web radios and Tidal, all controlled via a Naim app available on Android and iOS.

What to check before buying used
The CD tray and its playback mechanism deserve careful inspection: noisy loading or repeated playback errors indicate a worn optical block, particularly on units that have been used to digitise a large collection via the ripper function. Also test proper WiFi and Bluetooth pairing as well as recognition of the unit by the Naim app, as some network modules age poorly. Finally, check for the absence of hum or distortion when powering on, a sign that the power supply or output stage may need attention.
