Ortofon Standard cartridge headshell
Ortofon headshell allowing a standard cartridge to be fitted to an S-shaped tonearm with SME mount, mounting screws included.
Description
This Ortofon headshell is a turntable accessory designed to accommodate a standard-type cartridge. It fits onto the end of the tonearm, between the tube and the cartridge, and acts as a removable mount that makes fitting and adjusting the cartridge easier.
It is designed to fit S-shaped tonearms equipped with an Ortofon/SME-type mount, a widely used fitting standard found on many classic and audiophile turntables. The headshell is supplied complete with its mounting screws, allowing the cartridge to be fitted directly without having to source compatible screws separately.
This type of headshell is aimed at owners of turntables fitted with an S-shaped tonearm with a removable mount, who wish to change cartridge easily, have a second pre-mounted setup ready, or replace a damaged or missing headshell on their existing setup.
What to check before buying used
When buying used, it is worth checking the condition of the internal contact pins, which provide the electrical connection between the tonearm and the cartridge: they should be clean, free of oxidation and firmly fixed. It is also worth checking that the thread on the mounting screws is not damaged and that the headshell shows no play or cracks at its anchor point on the tonearm, as this could affect playback stability.
