The SUB 1801 from Real Cable is an unbalanced mono interconnect cable, designed specifically for the connection between the subwoofer output of an amplifier or processor and the input of an active subwoofer. It terminates in a straight RCA plug on one side and an angled RCA plug on the other, a practical configuration when the subwoofer is placed flush against a wall or housed in a cabinet.
Its design relies on a bi-metal conductor combining copper and silver, arranged in multi-section strands according to the TDC (Time Difference Control) principle. The aim is to achieve a constant propagation time between the infra-bass and the upper bass register, two zones that do not travel at the same speed in a conventional conductor. The TwistLock plugs should be checked first: the locking mechanism must turn freely and lock firmly onto the RCA socket, with no play or stiff spots. Examining the sheath along its full length reveals any crushing or pinching caused by running under a door or behind a piece of furniture, which could compromise the shielding. A gentle pull on each connector will reveal any detachment at the plug exit, the area where hand-made solder joints suffer most from repeated handling.
