Description
The Topaze is part of the range of RCA interconnect cables offered by Real Cable. It connects the components of a hi-fi system together, carrying the analogue audio signal between a source and an amplifier, or between any other pair of devices fitted with RCA connectors.
This cable is built around OCC Silver conductors, a metal that is 99.9999% deoxygenated, arranged in a TDC / Solid Core configuration. This structure aims to limit signal loss and alteration along the entire length of the cable. The braiding of the conductors is combined with a plant-based dielectric intended to reduce vibrations, while an aluminium foil shield protects against electromagnetic interference. Insulation is provided by Teflon, a material recognised for its stability and dielectric properties.
The plugs are TwistLock monoblock type, with Gold-plated contacts, and the assembly is hand-soldered with silver. These manufacturing choices relate to the quality of the connection and the reliability of the electrical contact over time.
This cable is aimed at high-end audio installations, where the goal is to fully exploit the potential of a quality source or amplifier. It has its place in a prestige hi-fi system, between electronic components whose sensitivity to cabling variations can be perceptible when listening.
What to check before buying used
The quality of the connection depends mainly on the condition of the TwistLock plugs: check that the locking mechanism turns without play and that the Gold-plated contacts show no oxidation or signs of corrosion. The plant-based dielectric and aluminium foil shield do not tolerate tight bends or overly short coiling, which can create weak points that are invisible from the outside. A continuity check and listening test on both channels help ensure that no internal silver solder joint has weakened over time.
