Rotel DX5

The Rotel DX-5 is a compact integrated amplifier designed to drive a pair of speakers directly, without the need for a separate power amplifier. Its reduced chassis and all-in-one architecture make it a complete solution for modern audio or audio-visual setups, where digital connectivity takes precedence over traditional analogue inputs.

The class AB output stage delivers 2 x 33 W into 4 ohms and 2 x 25 W into 8 ohms, with total harmonic distortion below 0.03%, ensuring a clean signal even at sustained listening levels. The damping factor of 140 reflects good control over the speakers, particularly in the bass, whilst the frequency response extends from 10 Hz to 100 kHz. The 100 dB signal-to-noise ratio ensures a quiet background, an important criterion for revealing the nuances of recordings. The ESS ES9039Q2M digital-to-analogue converter handles PCM streams up to 32-bit/384 kHz and DSD up to 4x, both via the USB-B input and via the coaxial and optical inputs, which are limited to 24-bit/192 kHz.

Wireless connectivity relies on Bluetooth aptX HD, complemented by AAC support, for streaming from a smartphone or tablet with near-wired quality. The HDMI ARC input with CEC management allows a television to be connected and the amplifier to be controlled from its remote control, a feature designed for light home cinema use. There is also a conventional analogue RCA input, a dedicated subwoofer output and a 6.35 mm headphone output. The colour TFT display makes it easy to identify sources and settings, and the unit is supplied with a remote control.
