Description
The Michi X430 is a class AB stereo integrated amplifier designed by Rotel to equip a complete high-fidelity system without additional electronics. It combines a power stage, digital-to-analogue conversion, phono preamplification and digital source management within a single aluminium chassis.
Its power section delivers 2 x 220 W into 8 ohms according to the FTC standard, with a continuous power of 2 x 205 W into 8 ohms and up to 2 x 340 W into 4 ohms, allowing it to drive demanding speakers with low impedance without losing control. The damping factor of 260, measured between 20 Hz and 20 kHz into 8 ohms, reflects good control over speaker driver movement, particularly in the bass. Total harmonic distortion remains below 0.03%, as does intermodulation distortion, and channel separation exceeds 55 dB, values that guarantee clean sound reproduction and a well-defined stereo image.
Digital conversion relies on a 32-bit ESS SABRE ES9039Q2M DAC, compatible with high-resolution streams, DSD and MQA. The unit also includes an MM phono preamplifier, a headphone amplifier with a 6.35 mm output, as well as Bluetooth aptX HD for wireless playback.
This level of specification is aimed at a central hi-fi system, combining a turntable, digital sources and current-hungry speakers, in a living room or dedicated listening room where input versatility and conversion quality are paramount.

What to check before buying used
The motorised potentiometer and protection relays are worth checking on power-up: crackling when adjusting the volume or unexpected relay tripping indicate that cleaning or a service may be needed. Also check that the ESS SABRE DAC and digital inputs work correctly with each source, along with Bluetooth aptX HD pairing. The MM phono stage, lightly used by some owners, is best tested with a cartridge to rule out any hum or channel imbalance.
