Description
The RA-1592 MKII is a Rotel stereo integrated amplifier, designed to combine power amplification, digital-to-analogue conversion and phono preamplification in a single unit. It delivers 200 watts RMS per channel into 8 ohms and 350 watts RMS per channel into 4 ohms, in class AB topology, allowing it to drive demanding speakers directly without an additional power stage.
Its digital conversion relies on a Texas Instruments 32-bit/384 kHz DAC paired with precisely tuned output filtering circuits, for a detailed presentation and a well-defined soundstage. Total harmonic distortion remains below 0.018% and intermodulation distortion below 0.03%, two figures reflecting clean signal reproduction, even at high volume. The damping factor of 220 strengthens the amplifier's control over the speakers, particularly in the bass. The unit houses a toroidal transformer manufactured in-house by Rotel and slit-foil capacitors, elements that contribute to power supply stability and low-frequency power handling.
In terms of connectivity, the RA-1592 MKII accepts analogue and digital sources, an MQA-compatible PC-USB input handling PCM up to 32-bit/384 kHz, wireless Bluetooth aptX and AAC, as well as a moving magnet phono stage for connecting a turntable directly. It also offers XLR inputs and outputs, selectable A-B speaker outputs, as well as RS232, Ethernet connections and a 12V trigger intended for integration into a home automation control system. The unit is Roon Tested certified.

What to check before buying used
The volume potentiometer deserves a careful test across its full range: crackling or a channel imbalance at low levels often points to dirty tracks. Also check that the protection relay engages correctly at power-up, a sign that the power supply and capacitors retain their original values. Checking the RCA and XLR sockets, which can become loose or oxidised after several years of use, avoids poor contacts. Finally, ventilation around the heatsink must remain clear, as this amplifier's class AB topology dissipates significant heat during extended use.
