Description
The RA-6000 is a stereo integrated amplifier from Rotel, designed to combine the power stage, preamplifier and a full digital-to-analogue conversion section within a single chassis. It allows for the connection of both classic analogue sources, via its phono input, and modern digital sources through its USB, optical and coaxial inputs.
The power section delivers 2 x 200 W into 8 ohms, with total harmonic distortion below 0.0075 % and intermodulation distortion below 0.03 %, two figures that reflect a signal reproduced with very little alteration. The damping factor of 600 (measured between 20 Hz and 20 kHz into 8 ohms) indicates good control of the amplifier over speaker driver movement, particularly in the bass. The preamplifier output measures 1.9 V into an impedance of 100 ohms, while the digital-to-analogue converter achieves a signal-to-noise ratio of 102 dB and the MM phono input a ratio of 80 dB. What to check before buying used
On an integrated amplifier of this power, the volume and source selection potentiometers are the first points to test, checking for crackling or dropouts when turned. Also check that all the stated inputs work properly, particularly the MM phono stage and the USB, optical and coaxial digital inputs, as well as the stability of the Bluetooth connection if it is used. Checking the ventilation and casing temperature after several tens of minutes of listening helps to ensure that the power section shows no abnormal ageing of the capacitors.
