Rotel RC-1572 MKII

The RC-1572 MKII is a stereo preamplifier from Rotel, designed as the gateway to separates systems. It centralises source selection and processing before passing the signal to an external power amplifier, an architecture that allows each link in the chain to be optimised for its own function.

At the heart of the unit is a 32-bit/768kHz AKM digital-to-analogue converter, identical to that used on the brand's 1590 model. The power supply relies on an oversized toroidal transformer paired with dedicated regulation, designed to maintain stable current and voltage across all stages, including during the most dynamic musical passages. An aptX Bluetooth function rounds out the unit for wireless playback.

In terms of connectivity, the RC-1572 MKII offers balanced XLR analogue inputs, compatible in particular with the XLR outputs of the Rotel RCD-1572 CD player, as well as four pairs of conventional RCA inputs. A dedicated phono input for moving magnet cartridges broadens the range of possible sources. On the output side, the unit features balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA connections, a mono subwoofer output, as well as two 12-volt triggers for controlling the activation of an external amplifier or other components in the chain.

This preamplifier is aimed at hi-fi enthusiasts wishing to build or upgrade a separates system, particularly those who already own an older-generation analogue preamplifier and are looking for an upgrade that includes digital conversion and wireless connectivity. It is suited both to use with a turntable fitted with an MM cartridge and to modern digital sources.

When buying used, it is worth checking that the potentiometers and source selectors function correctly, as these can develop crackling with use, as well as the condition of the power supply capacitors, which are under continuous strain. The phono input's operation deserves a specific test, as does the aptX Bluetooth connection and the proper switching of the 12-volt triggers, which are often overlooked during quick checks.

The RC-1572 MKII is available in Black or Silver finish, allowing it to be paired with other Rotel components or an existing system according to aesthetic preference.
