The Beethoven Baby Grande Référence is a 3-way floorstanding speaker designed by Vienna Acoustics. It combines a silk dome tweeter with a 6-inch flat-cone midrange driver, in an architecture designed to reproduce music accurately across the entire audible spectrum.
The midrange driver is based on a flat cone technology called spidercone X4P, reinforced with fibreglass ribs 18 mm high for the woofer section and 14 mm for the midrange section. This rigidity aims to make the diaphragm operate as a homogeneous piston rather than a surface subject to uncorrelated vibrations, with the goal of controlled impulse response. The recessed fabric centre cone, integrated into the spidercone, completes this design.
The 3-way crossover uses 6 dB and 12 dB Bessel-type slopes, with selected components: polypropylene capacitors with 1% tolerance, resistors at 0.7% and metal film resistors with 1% tolerance, air-core coils for the midrange and treble sections, and a special powder core coil for the woofer section, without additional inductance. Sensitivity is 89 dB, impedance is 4 ohms, and frequency response extends from 33 Hz to 23,000 Hz. The manufacturer recommends an amplifier of 40 to 300 watts.

What to check before buying used
The fibreglass spidercone midrange must remain free of cracks or dents, particularly on the stiffening ribs that ensure piston-like behaviour. Check the condition of the woofer's suspension, which may harden or split over time, as well as the integrity of the tweeter's silk dome. Also inspect the speaker cabinet, particularly the edges and veneer, and listen to each speaker separately to detect any faulty crossover components.
