YBA Genesis A6
Power amplifier from YBA, designed by Yves-Bernard André, with a black aluminium casing and minimalist connectivity.
Description
The Genesis A6 is a power amplifier designed by the French brand YBA, founded by Yves-Bernard André. It is a component dedicated purely to amplification, intended to be paired with a separate preamplifier within a high-end hi-fi system.
Its black aluminium casing incorporates cooling heatsinks on each side, engraved with the YBA logo, and closes with a black acrylic front panel devoid of any visible button or switch. The on/off control is located underneath the unit, on the left-hand side. Behind the acrylic panel is an orange display. At the rear, connectivity is limited to a pair of RCA inputs and a pair of speaker outputs, with no other controls.
This aesthetic and functional approach, with no visible controls or superfluous elements, is aimed at an enthusiast of streamlined hi-fi setups, looking for a dedicated power amplifier within a system already equipped with a preamplifier, and wishing for discreet integration into their listening space.
What to check before buying used
On this type of power amplifier, attention should first be paid to the power supply capacitors, which may dry out over the years and affect sound quality. It is also worth checking that the orange display functions correctly and inspecting the condition of the acrylic front panel, which is prone to micro-scratches and knocks. Checking for the absence of background noise, hum or unexpected cutting out when powering up will help ensure the general electronics are in good condition.
